Disney Packing Essentials: What to Bring (and What You’ll Be Glad You Packed)
Packing for a Disney trip can feel overwhelming. You don’t want to overpack… but you also don’t want to be the one walking through the parks in waterlogged shoes because it poured for 12 minutes. After multiple trips to the parks, this is my tried‑and‑true list of Disney packing essentials. And some extra tips as well.
Whether you’re traveling with kids, as a Disney adult, or somewhere in between, this list will help you pack smart and be ready for anything Disney brings your way.
Park Bag Must‑Haves
These are the items that live in my park bag every single day:
- Portable phone charger – Checking wait times, booking your Lightning Lane, mobile ordering… your battery doesn’t stand a chance.
- Reusable water bottle – You can refill for free around the parks.
- Sunscreen & lip balm with SPF – Florida sun does not play.
- Poncho or compact rain jacket – Afternoon rainstorms are basically scheduled entertainment.
- Cooling towel or handheld fan – Especially clutch in warmer months.
- Snacks – Hangry guests are not magical.
Health & “Just in Case” Items
These are the things you hope you don’t need… but will be SO glad you packed if you do:
- Pain reliever (headaches + miles of walking)
- Foot care (Band‑Aids, moleskin, Epsom salt, compression socks and/or foot mask – Dr. Schol’s makes great ones)
- Pepto
- Digestive backup (trust me)
- Motion sickness meds
- Hand sanitizer & wipes
Pro tip: Toss these in a small pouch or purchase travel packs so they’re easy to grab and carry in your park bag during the day.

Clothing & Footwear Essentials
Disney style matters, but comfort matters more.
- Broken‑in walking shoes (never brand new!)
- Extra shoes & socks (rain = soggy sneakers)
- Lightweight layers for cooler mornings or evenings
- Hat or sunglasses for sun protection
Rainy Season Strategy (What We Always Do)
If you’re traveling during rainy season, this is non‑negotiable for our family.
We always bring ponchos, rain jackets, and occasionally a small umbrella — but the real game‑changer is packing a change of shoes that can get wet or dry quickly.
When the rain starts, we pull off to the side, swap shoes, and keep going instead of squishing around the parks all day. It makes a huge difference in comfort.
Bonus tip: Bring a plastic bag or reusable bag to stash your wet shoes inside your park bag once you switch them out. Your dry stuff will thank you.
Summer Month Pro Tips
If you’re visiting during the summer months, hydration is everything.
One of my favorite tips: place a grocery order and have multiple cases of water delivered to your resort. **DO NOT pay for expensive bottles of water in the parks!!
Take a couple of those water bottles and pop them in the fridge — if your room has a fridge with a small freezer, even better. Cold water in the parks hits different.
**I also recommend bringing a small insulated cooler bag in our park bag to keep those waters cold longer throughout the day.
Technology & Extras
A few extras that make your trip smoother:
- MagicBand+ or ticket backups
- Small backpack or crossbody bag – A Camelback (or similar) style backpack for the summer months
- Autograph book & Clickable Sharpie – if characters are on your must‑do list
- Ziploc bags – Multiple uses: phones on water rides, leftover food, store wet clothes, easy disposable bag to house all your medications/first-aid kit etc.
