Important Information for Disney Individual Lightning Lanes
Planning on purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane selection on your Disney vacation and not sure how it works? Below you will find helpful notes and important information for Disney Individual Lightning Lanes.
What is an Individual Lightning Lane selection?
Whether you’re going to the Walt Disney World Resort or the Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane details are the same. Disney Genie+ is the package or bundle of Lightning Lane selections. Individual Lightning Lane selections are NOT included in the Disney Genie+ bundle. In order to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane, each person in your party must have a valid theme park ticket and a theme park reservation. You must purchase an Individual Lightning Lane selection for every guest planning to ride that attraction.
Individual Lightning Lane attractions are the “E Ticket” or Tier 1 attractions for each park. A Lightning Lane is a separate line that allows you to skip an attractions traditional standby line, and take advantage of a significantly shorter wait. These attractions are purchased “a la carte” / INDIVIDUALLY, and can be purchased with or without Disney Genie+. Meaning, you can either choose to buy Disney Genie+ AND Individual Lightning Lane selections, just an Individual Lightning Lane selection or just Disney Genie+. The two add-ons are completely independent of each other and don’t have any impact on the other.

Know that Individual Lightning Lanes WILL sell out. Especially if it’s a new attraction, during a holiday week, three day weekend or if it’s crowded and the theme park sold out of park reservations for that day. If you know you want to purchase a specific ride’s Individual Lightning Lane, it’s best you do it first thing in the morning.
If you have a Park Hopper ticket, you CAN make a selection for an attraction that is in a different park than the one that you have a theme park reservation for. You will just need to make sure you select a time slot for after 2pm at Walt Disney World Resort or 11am at Disneyland Resort (which is when park hopping hours begin at those resorts).
