Shades of Green Standard Rooms
Shades of Green Resort is a Military Resort at Walt Disney World. It is a resort for all Service Members, regardless if they are Active Duty, Retired, National Guard, Reservists, or Honorably Discharged.
Before reading on, please make sure you have checked the Shades of Green Resort eligibility requirements to confirm what Rate Category you and/or the Service Member fall under.
Shades of Green Resort
The Shades of Green Resort is located on the Walt Disney World Resort, across the street from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and is sandwiched between two beautiful golf courses, the Magnolia and the Palm. These two PGC Championship golf courses are the namesakes for the two wings inside of the Resort.
On the right is the Magnolia Wing; which is the original section of the resort, and is closest to the two resort pools, Evergreens Sports Bar, Magnolia Spa, Attraction Ticket office, and AAFES Exchange. And on the left is the Palm Wing, which was added in 2004 and is closest to the Parking Garage, Fitness Center, Mangino’s restaurant, and Garden Gallery buffet. Between these two wings, the Shades of Green Resort has 586 standard rooms and suites.
Standard Rooms
Shades of Green has THE largest Standard Rooms on Walt Disney World property. At a spacious 450 square feet, a Standard Room at Shades of Green has 2 Queen Beds and a single sleeper sofa.
The maximum occupancy is 5 people per room (that includes adults AND children, no matter how young they are). There is a $15 nightly charge for each additional adult up to the stated limit per room – If you had 3 adults in a Standard Room, you would pay the additional $15 a night for the third adult.

Room Amenities
Every Standard Room at Shades of Green has a mini-fridge, coffee maker, a small dining table, iron and ironing board. There are NO microwaves or alarm clocks. There is a large dresser with multiple drawers as well as a nightstand with a couple smaller drawers. The closet has several hangers and security safe.
Bathrooms have complimentary bath products – facial soap, shampoo & conditioner, body wash and lotion, as well as a hairdryer.
There are two different bathroom types in the Standard Rooms. One bathroom type has a single vanity and is one combined space. The other has a double vanity and separate shower & toilet room.
Room Rate Categories
Nightly room rates are based on three different rate categories, which are determined by the Service Member’s rank or eligibility status.

Additional Shades of Green Room Rate Policies
- Rooms for sponsored guests of Rate Category I will be charged at Rate Category II rates
- Rate II: 100% Disabled with DD Form 1173, DD Form 2765, or DD Form 2
- Rate III: DoD ID or Retired SF 50 required for check-in. Only foreign military with U.S. Travel Orders or assigned to a U.S. Military Installation (with unlimited DD1173, DD Form 2765)
Honorably Discharged Veterans with a DD214 can stay at Shades of Green during the months of January and September. Veterans can make reservations for travel dates during those months and will fall under CAT III. When booking online you will want to select the Veteran’s Rate. If you don’t see that rate click the “View More Rates” at the bottom.
Shades of Green does have Monthly Specials for certain travel dates. If your travel dates are when there is a Monthly Special, you can call the reservation line at 888-593-2242 to have the special applied to your reservation. The special will not automatically be applied to your online reservation and if you book over the phone, you will have to inform the reservationist about the special otherwise you will not get the special pricing. Also know that if only some of your travel dates are during a Monthly Special, you can still have the discount applied to the dates that are included in that special.
Sponsoring rooms
If you are planning a Disney vacation for you as well as your extended family or friends, you can book multiple rooms at Shades of Green. There are adjoining/connecting rooms available at Shades of Green. You can make a request when you book your rooms. It is not guaranteed that you will get connecting rooms but they do their best to accommodate any requests. I also like to call about a week out just to confirm that it is noted on my reservation that we want connecting rooms.
When sponsoring rooms, you as the Service Member or Spouse must be present at the time of check-in for any sponsored rooms. Any sponsored guest can go to Shades of Green before your arrival and can drop their bags off at the Bell Hop, swim at the pool, or grab a bite to eat without the sponsor being present, but they will not be able to check-in without you. Also, know that sponsored rooms must be either on the same dates as the sponsor or less. Meaning sponsored guests must check in on the same date or after the sponsor and check out on the same date or before the sponsor checks out. A sponsor and their spouse ( spouse must have their own Military ID or a dependent ID) can each sponsor two additional rooms. Veterans staying using the “Salute to our Veterans” can book up to three rooms.
TIP: It is best to send a copy of your reservation to your sponsored guests so that when they arrive, they can tell the Gate Guard they are checking in and provide proof; because like on any Military installation, you must show a Military ID to be granted access. Having a copy of a reservation lets the Gate Guard know that your Civilian guests are in fact staying at Shades of Green and will be allowed on the property.
One Last Note
Poolside Rooms
Poolside Rooms at Shades of Green are exactly the same as the Standard Rooms, but the only difference is that they are located on the ground floor facing the pool. When booking a poolside room you will have direct access to either the Magnolia Pool or the Mill Pond Pool. Both are located on the Magnolia side of the resort and are only $10 more each night.
